Grant Description
Grants of up to $5,000 to Louisiana nonprofit organizations, school boards, schools, and institutions of higher education in eligible locations for arts and cultural projects. Funding is intended for programs and projects in the following arts disciplines: dance, design arts, folklife, literature, media, music, theater, and visual arts and crafts. All applicants must be domiciled within Calcasieu Parish.

Funded annually by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, this grant program ensures a high quality of programming and events for the area to encourage the continued growth of the arts in the community through a competitive grant process. As applicants compete only with other organizations in the parish, decisions about cultural priorities are made locally.

The goals of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Grant Program are to:

  • Strengthen arts organizations;
  • Encourage professional artists to undertake projects that have meaningful community involvement and build audiences for the arts;
  • Encourage a variety of nonprofit organizations to sponsor arts and cultural activities including classical, contemporary, and traditional arts in eight disciplines;
  • Leverage additional local support for the arts;
  • Provide arts activities to groups that have had limited arts experiences;
  • Provide funding for the arts and cultural activities that are open to the public;
  • Introduce the grant process and develop grant writing skills.

To encourage diversity among grant applications, no more than fifteen percent (15%) of the total re-grant amount to be distributed by the Arts & Humanities Council shall be allocated toward any number of projects with similar nature or theme.

For Project Assistance Project Ideas, see page 8 of the Guidelines in Supporting Documents below.
