Pre-Application Information:

Applications must be submitted by Oct 15, 2020 no later than 4:00 PM ET.

All proposal applications are processed in the weeks following the application deadline. Final decisions regarding project selections will be made by the North American Wetlands Conservation Council at its meeting in February.

The program requires a 1-to-1 non-federal match. For example, applicants requesting a $100,000 grant would also need to contribute at least $100,000 in partner funds (from nonfederal sources) towards the project. Funds that pass through a nonfederal partner but originate from the Federal government are not eligible as a match.

All eligible costs must be directly linked to eligible acquired, restored, or established acres that are completed during the project period. This means that each grant and match dollar, except for indirect costs, must be linked to an acre acquired, restored, and/or enhanced.

Proposals that keep grant costs not directly associated with acquisition, restoration, enhancement or establishment activities (e.g., grant administration, overhead, indirect costs) below 20% of the grant request are generally more competitive. As an exception, if applicant organization has an officially negotiated indirect cost rate agreement with a US federal agency, it may use applicant's negotiated rate even when it exceeds 20%.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact their regional coordinator Joint Venture coordinator early in the proposal development process. Coordinators can provide guidance on developing projects and proposals.

In order to apply for a grant, an applicant must complete the Grants.Gov registration process. Grants.gov provides information about acquiring a DUNS number, SAM registration, and authorizing someone as the organization’s Authorized Organization Representative (AOR). The registration process for an organization or an individual can take between three to five business days.

All proposals must be submitted through Grants.gov. Email the proposal and supporting documents to the Migratory Bird Joint Venture.
