Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Fellowships to USA, Canada, and Puerto Rico PreK-12 educators for professional development in geographic literacy through field-based experiences abroad. Applicants must complete the first component of certification before the deadline. An annual competitive application process is used to select educators and host them on a life-changing expedition that will expand their teaching practice and influence their professional and community networks.

The goals of the Grosvenor Teacher Fellow Program are for teachers to:

- Improve geographic content knowledge of different regions of the world via firsthand experience and naturalist lectures on relevant topics such as geology, climatology, glaciology, indigenous cultures, and historical exploration.
- Integrate geography and content knowledge of different regions of the world into classroom instruction.
- Develop an understanding of the function and interaction among natural systems—and interactions between human and natural systems—in the regions visited.
- Develop the ability to reason about the ways that people and places in different regions are connected to each other across time and space.
- Develop an understanding of systematic decision-making in real-world contexts as it relates to issues in different regions.

Fellows are expected to be active and engaged members of the Grosvenor Teacher Fellow Program over the course of the expedition year and the year following. This includes participating in a required in-person (all travel expenses paid) workshop in Washington, D.C. before the expedition (April 3-7, 2019) as well as periodic virtual meetups and participating as an active member of the Google+ GTF community. Fellows are also expected to serve as ambassadors of the GTF Program in all professional settings.

In addition, throughout the course of the program year, Fellows are required to submit a number of professional development deliverables to NG Education. Deliverables include goal setting, outreach and classroom action plans, media and data collection, a digital log, reflection, blog post, activity outline, outreach presentation(s), and outreach documentation; Fellows will receive detailed information about all required deliverables after their selection into the program is confirmed. All required deliverables are intended to help educators incorporate their field-based experience into their teaching practice and share it with their professional and community networks.
